SHORT STORY

THAT NIGHT WALK

The red-yellowish sky was ready to alter itself in the faded black. The sun was an inch far to set down, the intensity was being more of those breezes, and the sea waves had increased their altitude and velocity. I was walking on the sea shore and the smiling waves were frequently kissing my feet. The best part about being alone is that you start loving the things which you had ignored once.
I didn't notice when that beautiful evening turned into a dicey night. I had eyes at my wrist watch and accordingly it was 9.30.
I headed towards the road meanwhile my phone beeped.

"I can see you!" text notification flashed on my phone screen from an unknown number.

I ignored and waved for a taxi.
My phone beeped again in between.

"Diksha stand aside, a car is coming your way."

The moment I took my eyes off from screen a speedy car zoomed off through my way.
Without any second thought I immediately called that number.

“The number you are trying to reach is currently unavailable"

I continuously tried for 10 times but no answer I got. I doubtfully turned my eyes all around to look who is having eyes on me.
It was more than 25 minutes since I was waiting for a taxi.
I decided to walk.
At every step I was having strange feeling. Every second time I was turning back to look if somebody is following me.

"Not that way" A text flashed again

My heart skipped a beat.
I gathered some guts to text that unknown person.

“Who are you?” I sent the text

I waited couple of minutes for the reply.
I kept on walking then…15 minutes of walking, what I saw shook my mind.

"Road is block" I saw the sign board.
“How? It was open in the afternoon.” I shouted

I immediately call that number again. My heartbeat was extremely high and I was sweating like anything. Numerous questions were popping up in my mind. I was feeling trapped and I was panicking.

"Take the second lane and walk straight" another text came.

I can see no one around me for the help. I was scared and I decided to follow the text. I continue walking. After a while, I started hearing the steps of shoes behind me.
I decided to turn back.

"Don't turn" a deep voice hit my ears

I was numb from head to toe. I kept on walking.

“What do you want?” I cleared my throat and asked
He didn't answer

“What do u want?” I trembled

"Take left and then first right " he spoke up
I followed the same as I had no choice.
"I am gone" I said in my mind
Those bare lanes was not less than scary horror movies. I was not in a state to decide what to do and I just kept following his voice. I looked at my watch. It was 11.30 and I didn't reach at my home yet I just kept on walking. That night was seemingly the longest night.

Now, my mind gave the red alarm that I am in complete danger. I started remembering those glasses of beautiful phases that stepped into my life.
From being an average scholar to the journey of being the Youngest Gold Medalist in Neurology. From succeeding in professional life to failing in the personal terms. All my life was flashing before my eyes while stepping into the end phase.  It was seemingly the last night of my life. I was all lost in my primal days.

“Do You miss Jiya?”
My heartbeat slowed down. My steps stopped instantly and my eyes got widened.
I was seeing a man in all black. I couldn't detect when I turned back to him and was watching him with widened eyes.
I could see his eyes only as he had put over the mask. His eyes was gleaming in those street lights. I found something in his eyes, something known, something that I had seen earlier. Those deep oceanic eyes was resembling with someone. My heartbeat was getting lower.
He then unmasked his face.
“Samarth….? You?”
I couldn't believe in my eyes that the man of my life I lost was standing before my eyes.
I didn't know how to react and what to do.
That brutal past started running before my eyes. A disaster that changed my  life 7 years ago.

"7 years..." He exclaimed with dampened eyes

I was in trauma and my mind had stopped working. I was numb

"I missed you so much. I was wrong. You were right." He broke out

"Where is she?" I trembled
"Please forgive me" he hugged me
"Samarth where is she? Is she alright? I asked gulping the pain
" Yes… she  even ask about her mumma" he tighten his grip
"I want you back" he gushed.
My heart skipped several beats. Something rushed throughout my body. I was completely blank. That moment was such a trauma I can’t express even.
Tears shed through my eyes. I realized I too had held him with the same grip. It was the moment I deep inside wanted forever. Never have I ever thought I will meet him, hug him and feel him again in my life. It was like the meet I wanted for years.
"See our princess" he unlock his mobile phone while wiping out my tears.
I saw the cutest girl whom I lost 7 years ago. She was just 6 months old when destiny took her away from me.
The most alluring feeling was that she resembles my childhood.  It was the feeling of extremities where tears and smile was contradicting simultaneously!

"That is our house" and then he showed the most beautiful house of that lane.

That mazy night turned into the most beautiful night where I received my life back. My actual life back. The pain I got 7 years ago due to uncertain circumstances that led my life churned into pieces is now healed. Extreme happiness fall into my lap that night and all those primal agony vanished in a spin.
That night walk was mysteriously the beautiful walk of my life. The irony is that often destiny throws you in worst but when it pulls you out, it pulls you out in heaven.
